Stronger Together: The Kiyoola PWD Group

A group of persons with disabilities building something of their own

In Ntungamo District, members of the Kiyoola PWD Group meet, plan and support each other, with backing from SDU.

Across Ntungamo District, persons with disabilities are forming groups of their own, where they are welcome, listened to and able to make decisions together. The Kiyoola PWD Group is one of them.

Members meet regularly under their chairperson to plan, keep records and support one another. SDU backs groups like Kiyoola with training and linkages to opportunities that can improve their livelihoods, including savings groups that help members save, borrow small amounts of capital and strengthen their household incomes.

Beyond money, the group offers something just as valuable: belonging. Members gain confidence, share knowledge and begin to see possibilities where there were few before.

Groups like this are the foundation of SDU's work: community-led, practical and built to last.
