Headteacher Reuben Muramuzi on inclusion at Butanoga Primary School
At Butanoga Primary School, Headteacher Reuben Muramuzi has seen what happens when a school is supported to welcome learners with disabilities.
Inclusion does not happen by accident. It takes a school that is willing and the support to make it work. At Butanoga Primary School, in Ntungamo District, Headteacher Reuben Muramuzi has watched both come together.
Through its education programme, SDU supports learners with disabilities with school fees and scholastic materials, follows up regularly with families, and invests in the school's ability to respond to learners with different needs.
The result is visible in the classroom. Maureen Katusiime, a learner supported by SDU, is now one of the school's success stories. "She is one of our best-performing learners," says Mr. Muramuzi. "Sometimes she even tops her class."
For the school community, her progress shows what is possible when every child is given the chance to learn alongside their peers.
