The 2030 Agenda acknowledges that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. The first Sustainable Development Goal aims to “End poverty in all its forms everywhere”. Its targets aim, among others, to eradicate extreme poverty for all people everywhere, reduce at least by half the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in poverty, and implement nationally appropriate social protection systems and measures for all by 2030.

Ntungamo district has over 4,000 people with disabilities living in abject poverty, who cannot afford two main meals per day, the majority of whom live by begging for food and other sources of survival which has led to more vulnerability and community outcry.

Support Disabled Uganda to contribute to SDG 1, National Development Plan III and Uganda's Vision 2040 and Disability Act 2020, It aims to train and support 300 persons with disabilities with Income generating activities (IGAs), financial literacy lessons to form Village Savings and Loans Associations for PWDS and other vulnerable individuals, identify and develop existing skills of PWDS to transform them into commercial enterprises.  So far SDU has supported 15 households with piggery projects and 20 PWDS with bar soap making, linked one (2) female PWDS to market for their crafts products.

To realize this core program for empowering PWDS to eradicate poverty, SDU seeks the support of Ush. 400,000,000 to support the communities in implementing the strategic plan for 5 years.
