Our Problem Statement

HIV/AIDS continues to plague the global community with the current [UNAIDS REPORT 2021] 2,000,000 new infections were recorded. Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for 85% of these new cases. In Uganda, currently the HIV prevalence among adults aged 15-64 stands at [UHPIA 2021] 6.2%, where 7.6% are females and 4.7% are males which approximates to 1,200,000 people aged 15-64 living with HIV . In Ntungamo district, the prevalence rate stands at 5.5 % country wide while Ngoma sub- County has the prevalence rate of 10.8% in a district

Analysis of Ngoma Sub County alone disaggregated data according to Rubaare Health Sub district (Health Centre IV), a total of 242 persons had tested positive of HIV since January 2022 and were initiated on ART. Out of these 156 were females and 86 males. Of which those aged 0 to 14 years are 5.4%, those aged 15 years to 29 years are19.8 %, 30 years to 39 years are 33.1%, and 40 to 49 years are 21.9% while those with 50 years and above are 19.8%.

In a meeting with Ngoma sub county stakeholders and the Rubaare Health centre IV Health Sub district leaders and Kigaga HCII administrators which oversee the area in health related issues, attributed the increase in the prevalence of HIV in the area to lack of information on HIV prevention, poverty, long distance to the health services, being at the border with Rwanda where there are sex workers in the community trading centres, stigma and myths about HIV.
